In 2001 a small voluntary group in County Galway, Ireland launched an Association called the Poor Souls Crusade with the hope of highlighting the need to pray for the the Holy Souls continually. It held a very well attended half day of prayer, including Mass and confession, and a talk on the plight of the Holy Souls, in the Creggan Court Hotel, Athlone on All Souls Day 2001. In 2002 a small ad hoc committee was formed with a vision to
develop
this Crusade into a national one, hoping that each county in Ireland
will
develop committees to organise at least one day dedicated to the Holy
Souls
in every county within the days of 2nd to 8th Nov. and other days of
prayer
throughout the year. Our vision also is to see the Holy Souls Crusade
grow
and develop internationally - in every country in the world. To date we
have members all over Ireland and in 29 different countries (40 now as
of 2008) The Association has renamed itself the Holy Souls Crusade. In 2002, built on the interest and success of its first Retreat, the association organised a retreat for each of the Sundays during November, in various locations around the country. A young gentleman called Aidan Bond initiated this association after the death of his sister from cancer. He always had great devotion to the Holy Souls and personal experiences left him with a desire to promote their needs through Masses and Prayers. This work has seen the association develop and grow with huge interest and support both in Ireland and around the world. Our little prayer leaflets travel all over the world. New members of the Holy Souls Crusade who join through the website are sent a welcoming letter and 5 prayer leaflets which we hope will be used to start small prayer groups for the Holy Souls, or given to others who have a love of devotion for the Holy Souls. In 2005 we decided to have a Night Vigil of Prayer for the Holy Souls in May, which proved to be very well attended and very successful. Mons. Quinn of Knock has kindly allowed us to have the 2nd Saturday night in May every year for this event. We have also securred the Sunday after All Souls Day in November as our annual Day of Prayer for the Holy Souls Crusade. Following annual pilgrimages to Garabandal since 2003 and
after a 2005 pilgrimage to Medjugorje, we have decided to organise
pilgrimages specifically
for the Holy Souls. More information about the Pilgrimage to Garabandal
and to Medjugorje for 2006 can be
found
HERE and to the Divine Mercy
shrine in Poland HERE. We now publish a bi-annual newsletter, one before each of the events in Knock. Read them all at this link. We also have started to publish little prayer booklets for the Holy Souls and more information can be found HERE. See what our Vision for the Holy Souls Crusade is from the link. As a small, voluntary organisation we depend entirely on the generosity of others to help us in our work. The cost of printing, postage and shipping are huge yet we continue to support our members throughout the world by sending prayer leaflets and literature about Purgatory and the Holy Souls as they request it. Your donation, no matter how small, will go towards the work of the Holy Souls Crusade and help us to cover the cost of this promotional work. If you would like to help in any way - financial, promoting the needs of the Holy Souls or promoting the Holy Souls Crusade - it would be very much appreciated.
